Foreign Exchange: Saddam Turns His Back on Greenbacks
By William Dowell for TIME. Monday, Nov. 13, 2000.
Europe’s dream of promoting the euro as a competitor to the U.S. dollar may get a boost from SADDAM HUSSEIN. Iraq says that from now on, it wants payments for its oil in euros, despite the fact that the battered European currency unit, which used to be worth quite a bit more than $1, has dropped to about 82[cents]. Iraq says it will no longer accept dollars for oil because it does not want …

How many times must a parent bury a child?
Well, in the case of Muammar Qaddafi it’s not only twice: once for his daughter, murdered by the United States bombing on his home in 1986, and again on 30 April 2011 when his youngest son, Saif al Arab, but yet again for three young children, grandbabies of Muammar Qaddafi killed along with Saif at the family home.
Now, I watched Cindy Sheehan as she bared her soul before us in her grief; I cried when Cindy cried. …

CNN reporter Nima Elbagir has purportedly spoken to Safia Gaddafi, wife of Muammar Gaddafi in what CNN claims is the first time she has spoken to foreign or domestic media. The interview was arranged by CNN, through Safia’s office manager.
Safia decided to come forward due to the NATO murder of her son Saif Al-Arab, along with 3 of Gaddafi’s grandchildren, all of whom were under the age of 12. This heinous war crime has been brushed under the carpet by the contrived bin Laden fairy tale, …

Deciphering the Doublespeak
“Help” – read “Saddle with huge debts as precursor to crippling austerity measures as a result of inevitable non-payment”
“Transform/stabilize/modernize the economic model” – read “Neoliberalise – open markets, remove import taxes, allow Western multinationals to eviscerate all public industries, deregulate prices, drive costs down, crush unions, lay off workers”
“Political development” – read “Funding of pro-US, pro-EU movements that will ensure a subservient government (just like the US State Department and its proxy NGO’s have been doing for years already)”
“We are on your side” – read “Economically, militarily and …

“The test of a first-rate intelligence,” F. Scott Fitzgerald famously wrote, “is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.” When it comes to what’s been dubbed the “Arab Spring,” most Middle East analysts pass Fitzgerald’s test with flying colours.
Hardly anyone would dispute the claim that Haim Saban cares deeply about Israel. After all, the Egyptian-born Israeli-American media mogul has admitted to the New York …

It was May 12 1996 when I got the call. Kathy Kelly, a peace activist who constantly risked the wrath of the US government for her compassion, was phoning from Chicago, stunned.
Washington’s UN ambassador Madeleine Albright had just appeared on Sixty Minutes, Kelly told me.
Presenter Lesley Stahl had confronted her guest on the US-driven embargo on Iraq.
“We have heard that a half million children have died,” said Stahl. “I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is …

Israeli soldiers yesterday killed at least fifteen Palestinians and wounded many more as they suppressed protests held at border posts facing Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza to mark the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the Zionist state.
This latest massacre of Palestinian civilians inflicted by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) again demonstrates the Israeli government’s brazenly unlawful operations. The situation also exposes the Obama administration’s “humanitarian” pretext for the bombardment of Libya.
NATO’s war is supposedly necessary to protect unarmed civilians from the possibility of being killed by government forces—but …

Gaddafi was advocating to end African Union subservience to EU/US by pushing for African Development Bank and replacing Franc with African currency;
Western policy of funding and arming al Qaeda-linked militants, Islamists and cutthroat killers in Libya mirrors US Afghanistan policy;
Mainstream media focus on Misrata can be understood from an economic/industrial context: the city hosts the headquarters of the Libyan Iron and Steel Company (Lisco) that exports over 60 percent of its products with nearly 50 percent going to Italy and Spain, as well as Libyan National Oil …

In London, at a June 1999 anti-Yugoslavia war rally, Nobel Laureate Harold Pinter scathed US and UK leaders, saying:
Let us face the truth… (N)either Clinton nor Blair gives a damn about the Kosovar Albanians. This action has been another blatant and brutal assertion of US power using NATO as its missile… to consolidate… American domination of Europe.
Today, Obama doesn’t give a damn about Libyans, any more than about Iraqis, Afghans or working Americans. At issue only is Washington wanting unchallenged dominance everywhere, including over …
